Forever Views

by designer Jeri Nilson

The Goal

Create an elegant, yet easy, open and light filled space that will welcome the family’s young children as well as the family dog. The clients love nature and desire a variety of custom window to dress up the magnificent views.

The Challenge

Find design solutions that take into account the high ceilings and large open spaces. Choose furniture for the living room, guest bedroom and master bedroom. Maintain areas of flow as well as for cozy conversation. Introduce nature as a design element.

The Success Story

The designer focused on comfort and harmony, choosing soft materials and a neutral palette. Classic materials like chenille and toiles, are balanced by hardworking leather upholstery and rich traditional woods. In the living room beautiful champagne sheers trimmed with a leading edge of jeweled tassels frame the views of the surrounding trees and rolling hills- a lovely compliment to the Century sofa and chairs. A black and white floral roman shade in the breakfast nook compliments the lines of the chandelier. Fun and funky choices add a playful feeling. The Wesley Allen “Lauren” bed in wrought iron suggests nature with its lyrical curving leafy branches. In the Master Bedroom, an elegant Miles Talbot bed combines with lamps and a loveseat decorated with birds and natural imagery. The resulting space is light, airy and elegant while offering an equally comfortable and functional environment for the young family.

Traditional Multi Room in Bennett Valley
Rooms with Comfort and Light by designer Jeri Nilson The Goal Create an uplifting gathering space for the family in a small “sitting” room, and prepare the guest room for the arrival of a new grandchild. The Challenge Bring nature indoors and create a light filled, cheerful “sitting” room that balances comfort with antiques. Tame the South-facing windows and update the color palette. The Success Story Starting with a soft buttercream for the “sitting” room walls, the designer blended in soft blues, creams and florals on the sofas and chairs- the color scheme helps to balance the weight of the carved and marble top heirlooms. The clients are tall and athletic and enjoy the comfort and support provided by their new Stickley upholstery. The windows are framed with lovely, whisper soft, custom drapery panels and then dressed with Hunter Douglas Silhouettes to maximize the garden views. In the guest room, a Wesley Allen bed creates the just the right look with custom bedding. Fabric with muted greens, grays and blues are chosen for a chair in the guest room, creating a serene and calming color scheme for the grand child on the way. The same fabric is used to reupholster an antique heirloom chair in the children’s library nook across the hall. This project achieves a comfortable and cheerful gathering place for the family to enjoy, and is ready to welcome the new baby. Contemporary Multi Room in Napa Valley
The Natural Choice by designer Jeri Nilson The Goal Showcase the family estate adding key pieces to complete family room, living room and dining room arrangements. The Challenge Make design choices to complement existing architectural and view features. The Success Story The family room is energized by the drama of the zebra rug and the client’s fine art in rich reds and golds. Two sofas are done in a plaid textured fabric. The short fringed texture perfectly matches the playful feel of the room. The sofas facing each other and the addition of two comfortable chairs, offer a comfortable space for conversation. A contemporary Michael Thomas sectional makes itself at home in the airy living room with high ceilings and magnificent views. An understated neutral fabric choice for the sofa gives a sophisticated look. Accent pillows in the colors of cream and yellow ochre bring the romantic feel of the Moorish tiles. Two Stickley swivel chairs complete the gathering spot and offer a cozy place to sit in front of the fire. The customer’s dining room table, long and elegant with a “live edge”, pairs beautifully with Borkholder ergonomic chairs handmade by the Amish. A chandelier by the glass artist Chihuly adds a whimsical organic touch in a room full of warm wood tones in the floor and furniture. Share This Project On Client's Response Regarding Jeri Nilson as a designer and excellent help to anyone trying to find a special piece of furniture or furnish an entire room, there is simply no one better to help you. Jeri has a unique eye for just the right piece whether it be by size, texture or comfort, she has the gift to know just what will work and where. I personally appreciate her calm and professional manner. She does not “Push” you into decisions based on a large commission. She truly wants to find just the right thing for you, even if it is not in stock. Her creative ability is very helpful when you feel stuck with an area that has size confines. I would highly recommend Jeri, and am happy to provide a personal reference to anyone anytime. I remain a satisfied customer that will continue to use Jeri for ongoing projects in various homes.~ Katherine, St. Helena View Projects by Jeri Nilson

Wine Country Heart by designer Jeri Nilson The Goal Comfortable quality furnishings that are perfect for entertaining and relaxing in a classic wine country home. The Challenge Open floor plan with soaring ceilings and multiple focal points. Make the space feel like a vacation getaway spot for hard-working professionals when they come home at the end of the day. The Success Story A richly colored painting of the Tuscan hillside over the fireplace sets the scene in the family room. A Stickley sofa chosen for comfort, provides ample seating for family and friends. Accent pillows in a paisley velvet textile sport a decorative fringed edge in burnt umber. A leather cocktail storage ottoman is as beautiful as it is functional. A table from the Madeira Collection has oil rubbed bronze corner details with metal studs. A handwoven wool rug echos the color palette and defines the space. The bedroom offers a quiet and understated environment with a Stickley Chelsea bed; its gently curved upholstered headboard makes a soft and elegant statement. An Italianesque clock and lamp are small touches that complete the look. The Right Shade of Blue by designer Jeri Nilson The Goal Combine traditional and contemporary styles to create a comfortable and cozy space for their hillside retreat. The Challenge Create ample seating for friends and family without overwhelming the space. Choose a fabric which will stand up to the test of the family cats. The Success Story A sectional in her favorite -sapphire blue- brightens the family room. Super durable Kashmira fabric is a wise choice for this family’s relaxed lifestyle. Jewel toned accent pillows add depth of color and contrast. A Stickley cocktail table and end table with intricate hand-done wood inlay from the Harvey Ellis collection offer a handcrafted touch. A Stickley dining set welcomes you to the table, while the graceful lines of the étagère displays artful collections.
